Thread Waves is our first online class/group stitch-a-long, launching in July 2019! Our goal with this class is to encourage you to get creative, try out new stitching methods/techniques, and have you end up with a reference you can look back on when planning future projects, just like reference samplers of old.
What we will be making:
We'll be stitching a contemporary band sampler, using the same base pattern for each section, while we explore different ways to use thread, embellishments and stitching to create texture, movement and visual interest.
Basic cross stitching ability required.
How it works:
Signing up for Thread Waves grants you access to the Thread Waves Facebook Group, where a new class topic will be discussed/stitched every two weeks. You'll receive the topic lesson (posted as a combination of photos, text and video as appropriate for the topic), and an opportunity to discuss, ask questions and collaborate with other stitchers. Some class topics will be straight-forward stitching (discussions on specialty stitches), while others will be a bit technique-based (different ways to manage variegated threads, creating different effects using different stitching techniques). The topic list is open to your input if there is something you'd like to see us discuss as a lesson!
What you'll need:
- Fabric: I recommend a lower count linen or evenweave for this project, as some of the topics may be difficult to stitch on aida
- Thread: Go on a stash dive and pull out some of your favorites! Some class topics will specifically reference variegated threads, but otherwise there are no specific thread requirements.
- Embellishments: Some class topics will reference seed beads and other bead shapes. If your stash does not currently include embellishments, you can find some small packets of beads in our supply shop for less than a dollar a piece.
If you choose to stitch a years-worth of class topics on the same piece of fabric/banding, it will be approximately 520 stitches long. On 32 count fabric, that's approximately 32.5 inches.
The chart as designed has three repeats across, making it a total of 45 stitches wide. You can make it wider, if you'd like, by adding additional repeats.
We will discuss various fabric and fabric banding options in the Facebook Group before lessons begin.
This class is one year long. Signing up using this listing will give you access of the entire year of lessons.
Please note: This is a non-refundable purchase.
